Finding a Little Confidence

We all need a little confidence everyday of our lives.

Confidence to speak.

Confidence to smile.

Confidence to shine.

In our lives we are so caught up with trying to acquire many things, but when faced with challenges ahead, we either retreat back into our shell or avoid them. But we know deep down, we have to face them. “If only I had more confidence”

“Stepping into the unknown can be daunting, but with a little confidence, we can conquer our fears and unlock a world of endless possibilities.”

Jedidiah Alex Koh, BYS, MCC

What seems to be the need for confidence?

The need for confidence arises from the fact that life is filled with uncertainties and challenges. We encounter situations that require us to take risks, make decisions, and face our fears. Without confidence, we may hesitate, doubt ourselves, and miss out on opportunities for growth and success. Confidence gives us the courage to step out of our comfort zones, take action, and face challenges with resilience and determination. It helps us believe in ourselves, our abilities, and our worth, and enables us to navigate the ups and downs of life with greater ease and grace.

When fears arise and doubts abound,
Confidence is the anchor we've found.
It gives us strength to face the unknown,
And helps us grow into the person we've grown.”

If confidence is what opens doors of success and hope to us, what is the force that is closing doors and diminishing hopes?

When I pondered about this question, one word came to mind, and that is Fear.

Fear is an inevitable part of life, and it can hold us back from reaching our full potential. Whether it's the fear of failure, rejection, or the unknown, we've all experienced the paralyzing effects of fear at some point in our lives. While it's easy to succumb to these fears and avoid taking risks, doing so can prevent us from experiencing personal growth and achieving our goals. This is where confidence comes in. Having even a little bit of confidence can make a world of difference when facing our fears.

Why is confidence essential for overcoming fear?

Confidence is essential for overcoming fear because it allows individuals to believe in themselves and their abilities to face and overcome challenges. When individuals have confidence, they are more likely to take risks, persist in the face of adversity, and view failures or setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning. Confidence also helps to reduce the level of anxiety or stress associated with fear, as individuals feel more equipped and capable of handling difficult situations. With confidence, individuals can approach their fears with a sense of courage and determination, ultimately leading to greater success and fulfillment in life.

How can we cultivate confidence in our own lives?

  1. Acknowledge your strengths: Take time to reflect on your achievements, skills, competencies and personal qualities. Recognize your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem, and celebrate them.

  2. Challenge negative self-talk: Identify the negative thoughts and beliefs that hold you back. Challenge these thoughts by asking yourself if they are true, and replace them with positive affirmations.

  3. Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally is essential for building confidence. Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and make time for relaxation and self-reflection.

  4. Set achievable goals: Setting and achieving realistic goals can build confidence and self-esteem. Break down big goals into smaller, manageable steps, and celebrate each accomplishment along the way.

  5. Learn new skills: Taking on new challenges and learning new skills can help you build confidence in yourself and your abilities. Look for opportunities to learn and grow, whether it's through formal education or simply trying new things.

  6. Surround yourself with positive influences: Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Seek out coaches and other positive influences who can provide guidance and help you build your confidence.

How to find a little confidence when we feel like giving up?

Finding your ray of light. Everyone has different anchors that they can hold on to. Just as every ship requires a unique anchor to keep it steady during a storm, every person needs to find their own anchor to remain grounded in times of turbulence. Some ships require larger, heavier anchors, while others can manage with lighter ones. Similarly, the type of anchor that provides a sense of security and stability for one person may not work for another. We must take the time to explore and discover what anchor will serve us best, and trust in its ability to keep us secure. With our anchor firmly in place, we can face any storm with confidence and courage, knowing that we are anchored to our strength and resilience

What is your anchor?

Take time to find that anchor that will aid you in those times uncertain.
